Most ties are made of silk and can be a luxury item and a marker of social status. Once mandatory in the workplace, the "start-up nation" effect has influenced men's wardrobes, giving them less importance, except for special occasions. This is also why ties worn up until the 1990s end up in recycling centers and thrift stores, which have plenty to spare, while others languish in closets.

While dissecting an old tie, I realized there was much more fabric than I thought. I wrapped it around myself and, after some thought, despite the fact that the grain wasn't aligned with it, I realized there was potential to make a top.
